About

The Kaneland Silver Knights program is an extension of the KYSLL program. The program was created to offer athletes the opportunity to compete in additional games outside of Little League and play against other teams and players outside of Little League.

The program is a tryout based program where the team is formed based on athletes participating in a tryout. The program starts in July/August with tryouts and runs though the end of June, ending before the Spring Metro tournament. This program competes in games in a travel softball environment by participating in local softball tournaments.

IMPORTANT: Players who wants to participate in this program are required to register and play in the 2024 Spring Little League program.

FAQ

When does the program run and what type of time commitment is involved in participating?

The program runs September through June of the following year.

    • September through October:  2 practices a month, perhaps a game or two. Players are encouraged to play Fall Ball if they would like to get more games and practices in.
    • November through December : perhaps 1 or 2 practices
    • January through March : Players participate in the KYSLL winter clinics on Sunday afternoons and evenings, with opportunity for additional SK practice.
    • April through June: Play in 4 tournaments and/or round robins, with one practice a week on Friday or Sunday.

NOTE: No games will be scheduled on Labor Day or Memorial Day weekend.

My daughter is in other activities, is that acceptable?

Yes! The program was designed with that in mind. Practices are limited in the fall and winter clinics are Sunday afternoon/evening in order to not conflict with most other activities.

My daughter has never played before, would she qualify?

If your player is new to the game of softball they are encouraged to register for our Fall Ball or Spring Little League programs.

What are the age eligibility rules?

The players age for program eligibility is what age they will be on January 1st of the upcoming. Review this age calculator to help determine eligibility. Players are encouraged to play in a division until they age out. For example, a 10 y/o should tryout for the 10U Silver Knights.

What is the cost of the program?

The final cost is expected to be $350 but will be determined based on the number of players accepted to the team.

What does the cost cover?

The cost covers insurance, tournament fees, equipment, uniforms, friendly game costs and facility fees for practices.

Does the player also participate in the Little League program?

Yes. All players are REQUIRED to participate in the Spring Little League Program, participation will allow them to play in more games and grow their skills. Participation in Fall Ball is optional but is a great opportunity to get additional games in. If your player can not participate in the Spring Little League program and the Silver Knights program due to other commitments they are encouraged to play in the Spring Little League program only.

Will the Silver Knights team play together in the Little League season?

No. The Little League program follows specific guidelines on forming teams which includes a draft process in order to keep teams balanced. Additionally our district does not allow "travel" teams. If there are more than two teams at a division, the Silver Knights players will be split up among those teams in order to maintain a competitive balance.

How far away does the team travel for tournaments?

All tournaments have been within a one or two hours driving time from within the Kaneland area and most are local (within an hour), with the exception of one tournament being an overnight stay within a driveable (3-4 hour) distance.
