Coaching

How do I apply to be a coach?

All volunteers who wish to manage or coach must register directly on the league website. You can apply to be a head coach, an assistant coach, or both.

Note: If you apply to be a head coach, you are automatically considered for an assistant coach position as well.

What are the eligibility and training requirements?

To be considered for selection, applicants must complete the following by the communicated deadline:

  • Background Check: Required once per calendar year.

  • Abuse Awareness Training: Required once per calendar year.

  • Concussion Awareness Training: Required once every three years.

  • Diamond Leader Training: A one-time required training.

How are coaches officially selected?

The process follows three distinct stages:

  1. Review & Interview: The League President reviews all applications and conducts interviews as needed to evaluate experience and adherence to league philosophy. The President may consult with the Coaching Coordinator, Player Agent, or a coaching committee.

  2. President’s Proposal: The President submits a "slate" of recommended candidates for each division to the Board of Directors.

  3. Board Ratification: All appointments must be ratified by a majority vote of the Board of Directors. The Board has the final authority to accept or reject any candidate in the best interest of the league.

When will I find out if I’ve been selected?

  • Notification: The President or a designated board member will notify all successful candidates after the Board's vote.

If I coached last year, am I guaranteed a spot?

No. Coaching in a previous season does not guarantee selection for the current season. All volunteers are "at-will" and may be discharged by KYSLL with or without cause.
