COVID-19 Update

The COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic is rapidly changing the way that we, as global citizens, think, act, gather, learn, and live our daily lives which also means how we play Little League softball.

Over the past few months we have been communicating with the other leagues in our district, our district president and with Little League International for guidance and direction during this pandemic. The current date that Little League had suspended play for was May 11th.

Little League International has officially cancelled the Little League World Series and regional tournaments. They have not however cancelled local league play as they are leaving it up to each district to make the decision based on their own state and local guidelines on when they can resume play.

Based on our understanding of Ilinois’s Reopening Plan this means our region would need to get to Phase 4 before we could play a softball game in any form as that phase allows gatherings of 50 or less people.

Season Plan

The following plan is dependent on our region moving to Phase 4 and may change based on how Illinois progresses in it’s fight against COVID-19.

In the past we have had two sessions (Spring/Summer and Fall Ball). This year there will be just one season. Our plan would be to have a single season/session that runs from mid-July through September. We still need to do evaluations for our Minor A, form teams, order uniforms and allow two to three weeks of practices before games can begin. We may be able to do some of these items in Phase 3 of the re-opening plan but we will review once this happens.

We are also currently working with our district and Little League on forming procedural guidelines for playing games once play does begin, these will be finalized once we get closer to playing and shared with all parents.

Refunds and Cancellations

We are hoping we can play this year but we also understand that we do not have full control of the situation. If we cannot play and the season is cancelled parents will have the option of being refunded the registration fees or choosing to roll them over and use them for next season’s registration fees.

If you are unable to play this season due to the timeframe of the outlined new plan or you are not comfortable having your child participate we understand and will issue you a refund or you can roll the fees over to next season.

All refunds will be issued by check and mailed to the address on the primary account you used when you registered your player. The refund process is a manual process and we ask that you allow time for us to process your refund request.

Please keep in mind that none of this is set in stone and may change depending on how the re-opening progresses. We will continue to update you if and when our plan changes.

Thank you  for your continued support and patience during this time.

Sincerely,
KYSLL Board
